The Missing Link – AHA ’79
Shows come and shows go, and with them many products that seemed like good ideas at the time. Others ideas fill that unrecognized gap in an industry and build upon it. Such has been the idea for Datamed® ECG Format Translators. Now, over more than 40 years, Datamed® has evolved from add on boxes to integrated software solutions to become the universal translator for cardiology data acquisition.
Datamed LLC is a small family-owned company that has been working with ECG devices and systems since the 1970s. Our focus is on enabling ECG acquisition devices to communicate with ECG Management systems from different vendors. This allows hospitals to use the devices and system that they prefer without being limited to native compatibility. It also facilitates the continued use of older but familiar cardiographs and monitors, while enabling customers to purchase upgraded or new ECG management systems of their choice.
The original Datamed® ECG Format Translators were dedicated hardware boxes (commonly called the “Osborne Box”) conceived and designed by Carl E. Osborne Jr., P.E. to allow Marquette Muse systems to receive from HP ECG carts. This functionality was expanded in hardware, and then continuing the legacy, Carl Osborne III, grew that into a highly configurable software suite that crosses multiple vendor platforms and a large variety of ECG devices.
Datamed LLC’s cultivation of a vendor neutral position that promotes the exchange of information continues to benefit medical facilities worldwide through many generations of systems and devices. The culmination of expertise and technology over multiple decades has built the present generation of Datamed® products to become the premiere cross platform solution for medical institutions.
