Datamed® License Keys

Datamed® software utilizes Sentinel license keys from Gemalto for control and protection. All of the licenses ordered for an installation are contained in the license keys that are part of the order. Access to the key is required for the software to run. Hardware keys are USB dongles and may be moved from server to server as needed. When available, software keys are locked to a specific server and cannot be moved.

There are 2 types of hardware license keys that you may encounter:

  • Sentinel HL Pro keys are short and purple. These keys are used for production and test servers.

Sentinel HL Pro_cr

  • Sentinel HL Time keys are longer and black. These keys are normally used for demos but in rare cases they may also be used for production servers.

The Datamed® software applications may be installed before the license key but the software will not run without it. Instructions for license key installation and a link to the driver are on this page.

When adding new licenses, the license key must be updated. After the update all Datamed® software should be restarted, however the server does not need to be rebooted. Instructions for updating the license key are on this page.

License Key Installation

When the license key is plugged in, Windows® will install a plug-and-play driver. This driver will allow the key to function, but you need the full driver package to be able to access the Admin Control Center for administration of the key(s). The driver package can be found on the Start menu under Datamed/{application name}. You can download the driver package here: HASPUserSetup.Exe. You can also get the latest driver from the Gemalto website.

The license key is properly installed and recognized by the system when the end of the key illuminates. You can easily check the status of the key using the Admin Control Center which is part of the Sentinel driver package. This is accessed through a web browser: http://localhost:1947/_int_/devices.html. Correct installation may also be verified using the Windows Device Manager utility. The entry for the Sentinel HL key should be listed as “SafeNet Inc. HASP Key” under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

License Key Updating

As described above, the license key contains all of the licenses for a specific installation. If licenses need to be added or changed that is done using a license update file. The file will be generated by Datamed LLC and sent to the technician who has access to the server. To apply the license the technician will open a browser to “http://localhost:1947/_int_/checkin.html” and browse to the file.
